Interestingly he was a mere spectator for the very first two days and finally got a chance to roll on the third day. Straightaway he impressed the senior cricket player of Pakistan, Javed Miandad, who very well pressed for Akram‘s inclusion into the national team. This was the best possible opening for this legend indeed. From the very beginning, who was never a component of competitive cricket, Akram went on to become the great king of swing. He admitted that he did not know how to swing the ball during the early days, but on 23 November 1984, he made his international debut with the second ODI against New Zealand at Faizabad. Soon after, his test debut was made the same opposition at Auckland along with a test appearance for Pakistan, and he bagged a fifer each in both innings and grabbed the eyeballs.

He was a very important figure in England’s domestic circuit because he was representing the later Hampshire. Impressed by his show, the fans could even sing his name in England, and post-retirement, he also decided to voice his opinion on the game and became a very prominent commentator.
