Below are the different types of senior housing options we have.

Home Care

This housing option is for seniors who want to remain independent, living alone in their home. Depending on their health status, if the demand for medical assistance is low but all that the seniors need are only assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), home care is pretty good for them.

Home care services include companionship, personal care, meal preparation, limited housekeeping, and transportation.

There may be little modifications to the home to properly provide for the changing needs of the seniors.

Senior Housing

Seniors housing are apartments exclusively for people over 55 years of age and are still able to live independently. In senior housing, there are little to no personal care services but the community will help with social activities and transportation when needed.

Independent Living Communities

This may or may not be exclusive for senior adults but is majorly provided for seniors. These communities consist of maintenance-free homes and apartments for independent, active seniors. It is the residents that are saddled with the responsibility of furnishing their homes themselves but the communities offer around-the-clock security, community center, exercise and fitness center, and other necessary services for the wellbeing of seniors present in the communities.

Some independent communities may not offer 24 hours health care support but may allow to source from outside the community or from the community itself which involves extra charges.

Assisted Living

What is an assisted living facility? Assisted living is for people who can’t live independently on their own and lack the required supports to live at home. In an assisted living, on-site medical service is available, aides offer residents assistance on activities of daily living, meal service, medication management, housekeeping, laundry services, and around-the-clock security and aides’ assistance.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities

In continuing care retirement communities, residents enjoy the services of assisted living, independent living, and skilled nursing care. This ensures residents have access to various levels of care and services as their needs demand.

Nursing Homes

Seniors who need 24 hours medical services and personal care are committed to nursing homes. Before a senior can be committed to a nursing home, there must be an order from a physician specifying said.

Here, seniors enjoy around-the-clock nursing and medical services, personal care, such as assistance with eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, speech, occupational and physical therapy, social activities, and provision of three meals a day.

Nursing homes are fully regulated and licensed at the state level.

Memory Care

Memory care may be a distinct unit in assisted living, continuing care retirement communities, and nursing homes or it can either stand on its own. Memory care is facilities for seniors with different levels of dementia and other mental diseases.

They offered 24 hours care and medical services to patients or residents to promote the quality of life of those concerned.

Hospice Care

Hospice care is not a distinct housing option or facility for seniors. It is a type of care and assistance given to a senior adult diagnosed with a terminal illness. Hospice care can be received at home or in a nursing home. It offers services such as pain management, therapy, emotional support, and help in fighting symptoms of terminal diseases.
