Why the Pakistan team is so good at T20 Cricket

There is no denying that Pakistan has long been considered a great cricketing nation. However, there have been some shortfalls in their play over the years, especially with regard to their field play. Nevertheless, they have made some great strides forward in recent years, which is a joy to see.

But what is it about Pakistani cricket that is really working well for them at the moment? Here are three reasons for the same

Skipper Babar Azam has been leading from the front

Of course, we must start by mentioning the great Babar Azam, Pakistan’s skipper. He is widely considered the world’s best batsman, so having someone like this on your team will always drive the entire group forward.

In the past couple of years, he and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan have played incredibly well together.

If you don’t know much about Rizwan, he is a right-handed batter and wicket-keeper. He is also the vice-captain of the Pakistani Test cricket team. To date, he is the only batter in the world to score over 2,000 international runs in T20Is in a calendar year.

Their fielding is catching up

One thing that Pakistan has been mocked for over the years is its poor fielding. There have been many occasions where Pakistan has dropped even the simplest of catches, causing frustration amongst fans.

In the past, if you were to bet on Pakistani cricket, a poor performance from the field team was almost a sure thing. However, we have been pleased to see that this is something that they have finally added to their toolbox.

We noticed it, especially during the 2011 T20 World Cup. Babar’s team, including the keeper Rizwan, have certainly shown that they have made huge improvements in this area.

Pakistan’s habit of producing at least one once-in-a-generation bowler

We have noticed that Pakistan seems to have a habit of producing a minimum of one once-in-a-generation bowler over the years.

At present, Shaheen Shah Afridi has this tag placed on his shoulders, and at the age of 22, we can look forward to many more years with him stunning everyone with his mature performances. Not just that, Wasim Akram, one of the rarest talents in the Pakistani team has also gained the spotlight.

The fast bowler first made his Test match debut for the Pakistan national team in December 2018. He won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Cricketer of the Year in the following season.

The exciting thing is that this is only the beginning of the journey for Afridi, and we cannot wait to see the rest of his journey unfold.

Great times ahead for the Pakistani cricket team

As you can see, there are a number of different reasons why Pakistan is so good at T20 cricket.

Of course, having a batsman like Babar in your team does make a massive difference. However, cricket is a team sport, and Pakistan has certainly made improvements in a number of other areas, notably their field game.

It is exciting to see what this team is going to be able to do over the coming years.
