Hot Fuzz – 2007

A comedy police movie with action from beginning to end. Pegg (who co-wrote the film), plays a London policeman on a mission: to catch criminals, and becomes a zealot. His personality alienates his work colleagues and superiors because he makes them look bad. Therefore, he is shipped off to a small, quiet, country village in England. After meeting most of the village characters on his first day he almost arrested half of them for petty crimes. It is very funny at times and keeps you on the edge of your seat.  Exceptional acting by all, especially Jim Broadbent who played Peggs’ boss.

Paul – 2011

A brilliant sci-fi comedy movie about two comic book geeks from England taking a trip of a lifetime to America. Pegg and his co-companion Nick Frost starred and co-wrote the film. It is a classic road trip, and not to be confused with the popular South African film, Paul. The highlight was in Nevada, a state known for gambling, and the Roswell Incident. It is where they meet Paul – an alien. Funnily the biggest gamble in Vegas the boys took was harbouring an alien and not playing at the casino. However, nowadays you can play from the comfort of your own home, or in Paul’s case a motorhome. As Pegg and Frost take Paul onboard their road trip, things start to get a little strange. Paul’s behavior was a little weird, to say the least, and he had an appetite for alcohol and cigarettes.  Pegg and Frost are followed by the Secret Service because of Paul, as he had run away from captivity. As Paul also had special powers, the guys decided to help him. A great adventure comedy with some great dialogue and terrific actors.

Shaun of the Dead – 2004

A horror/zombie/comedy movie and is one of Pegg’s best so far.  Once again, he co-wrote it too.  Pegg, tired of his mundane life and job as a salesman, ends up in a sleepy English village. Unbeknown to Pegg, the villagers don’t take kindly to strangers and they try to get him to leave as soon as he arrives. He ends up in the local pub and finds out that some of them are zombies and want to kill him.  The film steps into its own, with humor and excellent acting. Overall, an unpredictable plot with twists and turns with great special effects too.  If you like a lighthearted comedy zombie movie with a twist you will enjoy Shaun of the Dead.

Run Fatboy Run – 2007

A romantic comedy starts with Pegg getting cold feet and ditching his pregnant girlfriend (Thandiwe Newton) at the altar. After five long years he finds out his ex-girlfriend has a new boyfriend (Hank Azaria) and they are living as a family together – with Pegg’s son.

It begins to tear him apart and he tries to win them back. The competition is high, and a vigorous, fit, and successful guy to contend with, as his life was the complete opposite.  What can he do to get his family back? Although this is a comedy, in parts, it was a little sad but at the same time uplifting. Pegg first tried to build his relationship with his young son but after time he realized that he was not always there. After hearing about Hank enrolling to run at the London marathon he thought, “he’s no better than me, I can do that”. So, he signed up. Unexpectedly not really know what he had got himself into.
