If you’re a Star Wars fan, you probably remember your first viewing and how the futuristic world and complex characters sucked you in. And, if you’re a Star Wars fan, you love comparing the powers and lightsabers of the different characters.

We’ve done the same thing for years, and come to the conclusion that the Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber is easily the best in the universe. Read on to learn why!
If you’re an Obi-Wan fan, you know that he’s had several lightsabers. We’ll be talking about his final, retractable lightsaber, The Guardian. This Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber is easily distinguished by its banded base with an elegant golden neck tapering into the blade.
Like all his other custom lightsabers, it’s blue. He constructed it himself shortly before The Clone Wars, and he uses everything he learned from his previous blades. This is his lightest and most elegant blade, and it moves easily through the air.
The Guardian was also used to defeat Anakin, meaning that it shed the blood of legends.
As Obi-Wan’s final blade, this lightsaber was also used to duel Darth Vader, allowing Luke to escape. Obi-Wan’s sacrifice here was heroic and made the lightsaber the most storied blade in the series.
Luke ultimately used Obi-Wan’s lightsaber as the inspiration for his green lightsaber. Since Obi-Wan used Qui-Gon’s lightsaber as an inspiration for his own blade, this illustrates the tradition of respect and reverence shared by the Jedi masters and makes The Guardian a piece of a greater legacy.
The Guardian is actually the first Star Wars lightsaber ever seen on screen. It was the first time audiences across the world were awed by the glowing, deadly plasma. This gives it a place in cinematic history.
And, if you’re a fan of the Star Wars franchise, it likely has a special place in your heart too.
After his death, The Guardian disappears. Luke was too far and could not have taken it. This leaves its fate shrouded in mystery.
Did Vader take it as a souvenir? Is it still out there, waiting to be wielded by a worthy Jedi? We’ll never know, but the mystery makes it even more legendary.

We can’t say that any lightsaber is objectively better than another. Each lightsaber is personal and suited to its owner’s abilities. But we can say that the Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber is the most pivotal and iconic lightsaber in the series, which makes it our pick as the best saber ever.
